Little Beings

Having a kid in the household really spices up the family life. It's just like rearing a pet. Except this little creature requires much more attention, does not eat crappy dog food (only high quality ones) and god forbid, can actually talk. So, it's quite hard to ignore this tiny being.

After the arrival of my cousin, my grandma's house is livelier or noisier, depending on how you view it. Because of him, my grandparents and I actually have something to talk about besides chinese series, which I rarely watch now. They will recall the chaos he created just the day before at their house, how mischievous he was at kindergarten as well as the amusing things he said.

Thinking of him always brings a smile to my face. Childre
n are, undoubtedly, the funniest people on earth. The remarks and questions that they can come up with really stun and astound you at the same time.

Nonetheless, sometimes, you wish you can shut the
m up or stop them from moving for at least just 10 minutes and you will be the most thankful person on earth. I don't even want to mention the time I had to babysit him in Genting. That was a traumatic experience. Let's move on.

Today, for example, he was exclaiming, "Oh, monster!!"
While I acted scared and went, "Oh no!"
Then, he yelled," RUN!!!"
And I said, "Help!"
So, there we were running away from the monster. And in the end he would kill the monster as Power Ranger or Batman, depending on his outfit.

Now, think same scene but repeated for more than an hour and that was how long I had to go about my pitiful lines and maintain the damsel in distress expression.

His mom
asked him to stop the monster nonsense, and stopped it did. But the monster was then replaced by dinosaurs, then aliens and then finally King Kong. And I said those lines until after dinner.

In the drawing below, he reenacted the scene. The one on the left is the horrendous monster, the one in the middle is Power Ranger and finally that thing on the right is ... me.

...

But like I said, he is really a joy to the family. My grandparents are happier with him around, although sometimes they can't stand his excessive running and screaming and also the mess he creates everytime he comes over.

We always look back and talk about those funny things he
said and did. If I am to talk about those hilarious moments, it will take me hours and by the end of it, all of you will die of boredom. Then again, a lot of things can't be describe by words. I probably wouldn't be able to recreate those scenes with words.

One day, he will grow into a fine young man and hopefully he will remember there is this jie jie who once played with him, taught him a lot of words and made eating rice and drinking water fun. Just the thought that I am here during this fundamental period of his life comforts me.

So, I shall stop here and be grateful to have him as my baby cousin, regardless that we
are not biologically related.

I hope he won't be that into costumes when he grows up. That would really be disturbing.
